Directions to the Fort:
Old Fort Johnson is located at the corner of Routes 5 and 67. Two miles west of Amsterdam, NY
NYS thruway Exit 27, turn right onto Rt30, Over bridge into Amsterdam, Turn left at the Library onto Rt. 5 west. Continue west out of city to the intersection of Rts 5 &67. Parking is on that corner.
Hours of Operation:
The Fort is open for tours May 22 to October 16 Wednesday through Saturday 10:00am to 4:00pm (last tour begins at 3:30pm), Sunday 1pm to 5pm (last tour 4:30pm) Old Fort Johnson tours begin at our Visitor’s Center
Admission:
A small admission donation of $4.00 for adults is charged. Children under 12 are admitted free.
Old Fort Johnson is NOT a State or Federal site. This Historic Landmark is privately owned and run by the Montgomery County Historical Society. We must rely on private contributions to pay all operating expenses each season. These include grounds maintenence, building structure maintenence, advertising, insurance, utilities and staff fees. Your generosity is necessary, and we thank you for your help. WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Group tours: Group tours are available by appointment. Please call 518-843-0300 or e-mail us at museum@oldfortjohnson.org to schedule your tour. We look forward to showing your group around the Old Fort.
